The banana bus full of riders out beyond Ardmore Bay The banana bus · Ardmore Bay

Want to explore beyond Ardmore Bay? Our banana boat sea safari is the fastest, funnest way to do it. Over 30 minutes you'll take in some of the best scenery on this stretch of the Wild Atlantic Way: the cliffs of Ardmore, the Cliff House Hotel and the famous shipwreck, all from the water.

When the boat stops to take in the views, you're welcome to jump in for a swim before climbing back aboard. And don't worry about capsizing: our banana "bus" is a slower, very stable boat that stays the right way up, so it's safe for adults and kids alike.

Every trip is accompanied by an instructor and lifejackets are provided for everyone on board. The banana boat is also out for rides on the beach daily, so if a full safari isn't your thing, come find us on the sand.

Good to know

Trips run with a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 10 people, so it's a great one for families and groups. Kids are very welcome with an adult. Bring swimwear and a towel if you fancy the swim stop. Like all our activities, safaris are weather dependent, so we'll always be in touch if conditions mean we need to move your time.

Frequently asked

01Do I need experience, or to be able to swim?+
No experience needed at all. You don't have to be a strong swimmer either: everyone wears a lifejacket and an instructor is with you for the whole trip. The swim stop is completely optional, you're welcome to stay on the boat.
02What's included, and what should I bring?+
Lifejackets and your instructor are included. Just bring swimwear and a towel if you'd like to jump in at the swim stop, plus a change of clothes for after.
03What happens if the weather is bad?+
Our activities are weather dependent for your safety. If conditions mean we need to change your time or date, we'll always be in touch in good time to rearrange. The Atlantic makes the call, not us.
04Are children and families welcome?+
Absolutely, the banana boat is one of our most family-friendly activities. It's a slower, very stable boat that doesn't capsize, and kids are very welcome accompanied by an adult.
05Why is there a minimum of 6 people?+
Safaris run with a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 10 aboard, that's what gets the banana flying. Booking for fewer? Get in touch and we'll do our best to match you up with another group.
06Where do we meet, and is there parking?+
We're based at Ardmore Beach in Co. Waterford, and you'll find us and the meeting point right by the car park. The banana boat also does rides straight off the beach daily.
